Go for the Golden

Walk the Golden Gate Bridge

Probably the most famous sight in San Francisco, this 1.7-mile-long iconic red structure is the most photographed bridge in the world.

Opened in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge is certainly the most famous suspension bridge in the world.

Walking across, you’ll take in the San Francisco coast and skyline from afar. If you head up into the hills on the Marin County side, you’ll be able to capture both the bridge and the city in one incredible view. Elsewhere in San Fran, there’s loads to explore.

Take the ferry to the infamous Alcatraz Island and tour the former prison – make sure you book your tickets in advance, as they’re not usually readily available on the day. Escape from Alcatraz pending, stroll along Pier 39 for seaside vibes and fish and chips and sea lion spotting.

For the more off-beat side of the city, check out the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood for a spot of shopping, and the colourful Castro district, the heart of San Francisco’s thriving LGBT scene. And of course, take a ride on San Francisco’s iconic trams before you leave!
